More Important Than Business: Family

As a business owner, I've been very influenced over the past two years by the coaching I've received from Dan Sullivan and The Strategic Coach program.

One of the key tenets of Sullivan's program is the idea of Free Days, on which you do nothing related to business. No thinking, writing, or acting on business ideas. You use a Free Day to rest and rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit.

You may recognize the concept, which dates back about 4,000 years. It's called the sabbath.

Today is a Free Day for me.

Today and on future Free Days, instead of blogging about business, I will blog about ideas that transcend business. Ideas that we should think about on those days when Jesus tells us, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." (Mark 6:31)

Here's an idea that comes first for me today: Family.

Thought: "It might be a good day to check your in-box. There might be a boy in your inbox or a girl in your in-box, desperately needing your priority attention. And you know, no matter what else you have to do, you just don't have anything more important to do than give them the attention that they need." - Gospel.com

Verse: "But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 25:15)

Question: How can you serve the LORD today by serving your family?

Hint: By paying complete attention to your family members for just an hour or two, you will serve them, by giving them your most precious, non-renewable asset: your time.

When you serve your family in a way that delights them and refreshes you, you will serve the LORD.
